The article presents a short introduction to the problem of Pentecostal identity and history. It highlights the origins of the movement in America and also in Poland. Separate treatment is given to the main feature of Pentecostalism, namely the phenomenon of glossolalia.
The author favors the thesis that Pentecostalism is a distinct force in the Christian world, although it sings up under protestant solas, its most characteristics features do not let it to be regarded as merely Protestant denomination. Pentecostal identity calls for category for itself.
